Personal Reflection

September- FRUSTRATED! This is how I am feeling about providing WIKI training. I find that no one is interested in learning more about Wiki pages. In the beginning my principal was behind me and was planning on making my PD mandatory and making sure all teams have a wiki site. She said I could have the first Monday of each month to provide training.  This is no longer case. She also took away all staff meetings. This was where I was going to provide trainings. Now I have to have each team sign up and use their planning time to meet with me. Each team barely has a wiki and are not using the provided training to help improve their team wiki.

October- Finally I was able to schedule another wiki training with each team. I kept each training very brief and spoke with each Team Leader prior to the training. I wanted them to understand why we were having the trainings. After the professional development I looked at the team Wiki's a few teams have added elements that I taught them during my professional development sessions. It also helped that I made video's on how to change and improve the wiki. I think having this quick reference for the teams was extremely helpful. For the November session I sent out a needs assessment and have decided to teach the teams how to embed a form such as volunteer training and field trip chaperone sign up.

November-  The feedback that the teams were providing they like the videos rather than the actual meeting. The only thing I don't like about the video training is the fact that there is no accountability. I am not sure that all the teams are viewing the training videos.

December- Teams are making progress. They are clearly using the training videos. The Kindergarten team has used many elements from the training videos. Their WIKI space looks great. Teams are also posting questions on the forum. I like this feature but it doesn't alert me when someone posts a question. That is the difficult part.I also noticed that some teams are coming to me to ask how to embed certain widgets. For example the Kindergarten team wanted to put a "shelfari" on their home page and I knew there was a way. I had to play around with but I finally figured it out. It was very cool. When I have time I want to add one to my Wiki.
